How the consultation works

The NHAS consultations are extremely comprehensive and are intended to equip patients with the necessary 'tools' to understand and manage their body's needs in the long term. The programme focuses on the areas that we believe to be important in the treatment of most conditions.

Based on the answers to the questionnaire we assess and evaluate:

  • General level of health and well-being
  • Social situations, environmental issues, mental and emotional well-being, and recent stress levels
  • Levels of physical activity
  • Current symptoms
  • Typical dietary intake
  • Medical history

Once we have assessed this information we can build a 'profile' of the individual and work out a tailor made programme. When designing a programme for each individual we take into account their tastes, lifestyle and budget. Once formulated, the programme is explained in detail to the patient. By the end of the consultation she should have a clear idea of precisely which foods to eat at each meal throughout the day, including snacks and beverages. Sample diet sheets and shopping lists are given to make starting easy.

We recommended that patients complete daily diaries and symptom charts. These can be monitored on a monthly basis over a period of a few months, until the symptoms are controlled.

At the end of the initial treatment a maintenance programme for the longer term is provided.

Choosing your options

Over the years our approach has evolved and we have learnt to keep the process as simple as possible. Therefore we offer two alternative ways in which you are able to join our patient programme. You can chose from telephone consultation or you can have an appointment at one of our clinics.

Whichever method you choose the first step is to complete a seven-day diet diary and comprehensive health questionnaire. The information you supply in these questionnaires will form the starting point for your personal programme and so it is in your best interest to be totally honest when answering the questions!
